I just love having a nice barbecue Sunday with my family and friends. If you are anything like me, then you probably know how valuable this is and how cooking a nice turkey is much more than just a good meal. It involves companionship and friendship. So, to help you in that, I've came up with this small article with 6 steps to enhance your cooking experience. Let us get started!
1) Preparing your turkey. You can never cook a frozen solid turkey. Thaw it thoroughly, clean it from any extra skin, fat and giblets, and marinate or brine it to have the best flavor possible before you even try to cook it in the grill.
2) Use indirect cooking: if possible, use indirect heating for the best turkey you will ever eat. How much heat will you need will depend on how big your barbecue grill is and how many burners you should leave on.
3) Preheat your grill before cooking. This is extremely important because you would want to have the perfect temperature for you to cook before putting the turkey into the grill. The temperature that you want to have is around 350 degrees, and if it is possible, you can use the thermometer on your grill to set the right temperature automatically.
4) Use a smoker grill. Add some wood chips to add the flavor and taste of your turkey. You can soak the wood chips in water before putting it in the grill, but it is not entirely necessary if you are a natural skilled griller.
5) Place the turkey inside your grill: starting with the breast side up, cook for at least 1 hour and then start rotating the turkey every 45 minutes.
6) Grilling the turkey. The temperature that you should have when you are grilling your turkey is around 250 degrees. It is not recommended to have less heat when you are grilling. For some people, 300 degrees is a good temperature to grill the turkey as long as it is turned regularly every 45 minutes to make sure that the turkey is evenly cooked.
Additionally, if you are able to cook at lower temperatures you will not only have a tastier turkey, but you will also have a full-flavor smoking grill turkey with that nice scent and smoke smell.
